Sustainability and the fight against climate change are, at present, increasingly relevant issues for companies, which follow a trend dictated by the Administrations and, ultimately, by the growing concerns of stakeholders.

From Bergner Europe, we want to lead this process of transition of society to a low-carbon, sustainable and environmentally friendly economy, setting an example and being ambitious with our improvement goals,
but also critical of ourselves.

We firmly believe that only with the joint action of countries and organizations, we will be able to halt the current trend and avoid the consequences of climate change. It is in this context that we are presenting our first GHG Emissions Inventory, starting a new cycle marked by the desire to continue improving our results.

In fact, in 2021, Bergner Europe has offset its Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions - a total of 114,160 tn CO2e - through the REDD Madre de Dios Conservation project in the Peruvian Amazon, promoted by ECODES. This initiative aims to drastically reduce deforestation by increasing forest surveillance and promoting the generation of benefits in the forest for local communities. The Peruvian Amazon is at great risk of deforestation and current resources are not sufficient for its protection.

The project covers 100,000 hectares of rainforest in one of the planet's key biodiversity hotspots, as it provides habitat for four endangered species of flora and 11 endangered species of fauna. The initiative also contributes to the sustainable development of rural producers and indigenous communities.
